the intimacy of experiencing music
I'm sitting on my bed typing this while listening to "if it's not you" by PRYVT. If anyone asks, I would say I'm just studying up for their upcoming concert, but really it's because my friend and I sung it together last Sunday in their car and there's just something about singing love songs with your platonic casual friend who you secretly like that just hits different. It was more like they sung it and I sung the one line in the chorus it was my first time hearing it, but you bet your ass I'll know every lyric by the time we see them live. I've had PRYVT on repeat because it reminds me of them.
Experiencing music is such an intimate thing even though it can be so casual. Getting to know what type of music other people like, listening to their recommendations, and integrating it into your own music taste has a sense of intimacy unlike anything else. My music taste is a mosaic of everyone I've met. I can trace through the evolution of my music taste and pinpoint it to a specific moment or person. I wonder if other people can notice how they've influenced my music taste.
